The first time we visited the San Juan Island's together, we were set on photographing foxes and raccoons. We researched every hidden cove and popular spot to try and spot them, but for the entire week, no luck. Until one evening, as we made dinner on a camp stove at Lime Kiln Lighthouse, we heard a rustling in the bushes. A curious raccoon popped his little head out, finding us before we ever found him. We followed him back up the trail, to where our car was parked by the dumpster, thinking we were so very lucky. Before we started the car to leave, 3 foxes and 4 more raccoons emerged, foraging for food, playing and scuffling together, just a few feet away. We spent the rest of the night by that dumpster, watching the animals we had searched all over for, who came right to us. We knew we were the ones for each other when we both agreed it was the highlight of our whole trip. Just a fox and a raccoon on an island, together.
