It all started our freshman year of high school. Aaron and I started to become really good friends towards the end of the school year and throughout the summer. My friends told me that he liked me and he didn't want to be just friends, but I wasn't looking for a boyfriend and tried to ignore that information. I kept Aaron in the friend zone for a few more months. We ended up going to Homecoming together our sophomore year, but after that, we stopped talking as much. I guess he figured I wasn't interested and decided it was about time to move on. I realized I didn't like the idea of us not talking often or him moving on! I told my friend Amanda Cherry and she responded in classic best friend fashion by taking my phone and telling Aaron that I liked him... we started dating a couple weeks later and the rest is history!!
It was Aaron's 22nd birthday on Saturday, April 7th. I had asked him more than a few times how he wanted to celebrate, but all he said was go to dinner and check out this funky house outside of Lubbock we had heard about. I didn't think much of it because he has never been one to make a big deal about his birthday. That morning and afternoon seemed like a perfectly normal Saturday. Aaron went to breakfast with a couple of buddies (or so I thought) and we met up later in the day to walk Aaron's dog and get some coffee. Aaron picked me up a couple hours later to go look at the funky house and head to dinner. We drove to this pretty area outside of Lubbock with a small lake in the bottom of a valley with houses down the valleyside. I saw this cute bench Aaron had made sitting near a cliff overlooking the lake, that's when I realized what was going on! We walked out to the bench, he said some sweet things and got down on one knee! Our best friends were hiding and watching everything. Our close family was there and we took a bunch of pictures! We headed home where the rest of our friends and family were to have dinner and celebrate! It was a lovely day and we'll cherish our memories we shared with our favorite people forever!
