If any of you have heard Travis tell you this story, you probably have heard that I served him undercooked wings at Leroy Fox one late Monday night...but only part of that story is true and it is definitley not the undercooked part. Previously a part time manager at Leroy Fox in Charlotte, I saw Travis come in often as he and our mutual friend, Ryan Hart, had a long-time friendship prior to me, but never really made a point to make conversation...until the night I personally delivered his wings to him and a few moments later checked to make sure they were delicious. Of course they were...and fully cooked at that...and after closing down the restaurant, Ryan asked me to meet them out for a night cap beverage before going home. After denying Ryan for several weeks prior, I caved this Monday night and met them at Sundries down the street. Trav and I hit it off pretty instantly. I realized quickly he was just as weird as I was. At the end of the night his phone was dead and we were wrapping up, but that didn’t stop him from asking for receipt paper to grab my number, and it wasn’t even 20 minutes later that he had texted me to hang out sometime. The next day Ryan says, I think my buddy is into you... The rest is history...and before long our love story began.
A few months before Travis proposed, I was at the coffee table eating breakfast, and he says, “I have to ask you a question, and I just need an answer, and I don’t need you to ask questions.” He asks, “what size ring do you wear?” After nearly choking on my breakfast I pointed him in the direction of a ring I knew was the right size. Needless to say, for the next several months I asked a lot of questions. One day, in early February, he asked if he could take me on a date, not just a date...but a brunch date, coincidentally it was the same day as the Super-Bowl and even after questioning his motives, I went along with it. He told me to dress nice, so I did. We went to 73 & Main in Mt. Pleasant, watched a hay barrel fall off a truck in the middle of an intersection, had a great meal, then finished up and began to make our way to Publix to grab some wings (because it was Super Bowl Sunday). On the way he says, “wanna stop by the park and talk to a walk to work off all this food?” Completely taken back, because if there is anything Trav doesn’t do, it’s brunch...and then to offer to take me to a park...to walk off food that I realized he did not eat much of anyways....weird. But obviously I said yes, seize the moment, ya know. So we’re walking around and then all of a sudden I see this beautiful white dog, that looks just like Bailey, and then it started to all hit me that this was all....WIERD. Bailey was the best actor of all, I called her name, nothing. She was not interested in Mama. So I asked the “dog owner” if I could pet his dog, and he told me her name was on the name tag. “Will you marry my Daddy?” And all of the weirdness that day made sense. As I look around I start to recognize a few faces and realized he got one of our friends to photograph the entire moment. Travis did it. He planned our proposal, and he planned it beyond expectation. It was a dream come true, and after a moment of delay to bring myself back to reality I said YES.
