When We Fell In Love

3/12/2017

Nick and Trish met while completing their bachelor's degrees at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Trish decided to sign up for a spring break service trip, and Nick happened to be one of the organizers and leaders of the trip. During the trip, they became fast friends. Nick had developed a small crush for Trish, but she valued his friendship. When Nick graduated, he got his first teaching job in Remer, MN, and they stayed in touch. Often, Nick would go to Duluth for many reasons, and if the trip involved an overnight stay, he would stay with Trish. He did this for a couple of reasons; 1. It would save him money on hotel stays, and 2. He wanted to spend as much time with Trish as he could because of the feelings he had developed since they met. One weekend, he came to visit for an alumni band event, and suggested dinner and a movie the first night he came to town. Trish immediately assumed he was asking her on a date, while he assumed it was just a night of hanging out with a friend. They went out for dinner at The Green Mill and saw the movie Get Out and something changed for Trish. She started having feelings for him as well. The next night, they stayed up late watching movies and Trish confessed her new feelings. And the rest is history!

Proposal Story

7/4/2020

Nick and Trish spent the 4th of July weekend at his family’s cabin with some friends. Trish had an idea that the proposal was going to happen, but she had no idea how or exactly when. One thing they enjoy doing together is playing games, including a game invented by Nick’s favorite radio show, The Power Trip Morning Show, called the Initials Game. The creator of the game recently released the game as a physical board game, and this weekend was the perfect time to try it with their friends. They all spent the first few nights playing games, so it wasn't a surprise to Trish that they were going to play games on July 4th. The premise of the game is there are 12 listed items and each item shares the same initials, in this case, "MM," each item has 6 clues that are read by a host in order for the other players to guess the items correctly. Nick played the role of the host for the game. The first two items had been guessed correctly, then on the third item, every player, but Trish, buzzed in on the first 2 or 3 clues, leaving her to be the only person left to hear the clues and guess. All of the clues were leading to the answer to the phrase “Marry Me.” As he read the 6th and final clue, Nick pulled the ring out of his pocket and got down on one knee. Nick asked Trish if she "had an answer" to which she responded with “no,” because she assumed that he was referring to knowing the answer to the game and she was a little flabbergasted. Nick then clarified, "M.M. - Marry Me?" to which she finally responded yes!
