Travel Note
USA: US citizens may apply for an online e-visa up to 90 days before travel through the online visa system; the fee for the visa is $20. Visas are also available upon arrival for about $60. We recommend the e-visa. Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy, Greece: You do not require a visa to enter the country. A passport is required for entry, but national ID cards from the respective country are sufficient for travel within Turkey.
Flight
The most convenient airport for traveling to Ankara is Esenboğa (ESB). Esenboğa Airport is approximately 40 minutes away from the city center. Taxis are available from the international arrivals to transport you to the hotel. However, they can be quite expensive; so, we recommend sharing. Ankara International Airport (ESB) can be reached from the USA and Europe via İstanbul Atatürk Airport (IST), Munich (MUC) and other airports. In case of IST, be sure to plan for at least 2½ hours of time between your connections to pass through immigration, customs, and change between domestic and international terminals. İstanbul has two airports, IST and SAW. Be sure to avoid same-day transfers between these two airports!
Rental Car
The major US and European brands are available at the airport. If you are considering renting a car, you should be aware that a vehicle with automatic transmission may be hard to come by and will need to be reserved far in advance. In the historic district, streets are very tight and parking is quite limited.
Hotel
We have blocked off rooms at the centrally located Divan Ankara Hotel for our guests for your convenience. We will arrange for a shuttle to take guests from the hotel to the wedding location. More to follow on this soon!
Travel Note
Taxis are the transportation mode of choice for getting around Ankara. They are dependable and relatively inexpensive. All trips are metered and not negotiated. We recommend that you have sufficient small bills in order to pay the cabbies; no credit cards are accepted. Tipping is not expected. If available, use taxis from a stand (Taxi Durağı). The bus system is quite extensive, but it is generally crowded and relatively complicated for the casual traveler.
