You are already here...but we suggest driving from Iron Mountain Road (18 miles about 45-60 minutes) around Wildlife Loop Road (18 miles about 45 minutes) and making a day of it. Can you spot the bison, burrros, big horn sheep, elk, etc...please do not approach the buffalo as they can be dangerous? You might also want to hike Black Elk Peak or Sunday Gulch Trail. Another suggestion would be to paddle in or watch the sunset from Sylvan Lake. Right here on property you can book a hayride chuck wagon cookout, buffalo safari jeep tour, boat / water sport rentals, or horseback trail riding.
This is a must see...even if just as a drive-by. You may also choose to walk the Presidential Trail or learn about the monument at the Visitor Center. If you time it right check out the lighting ceremony that illuminates Mount Rushmore.
Fun 14-mile road to travel (45-60 minutes) and see all the things! The road's name comes from the needle-like granite formations which seem to pierce the horizon along the highway.
So much to do in this charming little town. Go for a hike, explore a cavern, take a ride on Rushmore Tramway Adventures & Rushmore Adventure Park (I love the mountain slide, zipline, cave tour, and Rushmore Mountain Coaster), mine for gold at Big Thunder Gold Mine, check out Dahl's chainsaw art or the Presidential Wax Museum, smile and say cheese at an old-time photo studio, and grab lunch at Halley's 1880 store or a cold on at The Red Garter Saloon! You might also want to have a little taste of Red Ass Rhubarb wine at Grapes & Grinds. Guaranteed fun for people of all ages!
For the train enthusiasts, take a drive to Hill City and hop aboard the 1880 Train to take the two-hour scenic trip that winds through the trees from Hill City to Keystone.
Dive Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway and check out Bridal Veil, Roughlock, & Spearfish Falls.
Deadwood is famous for its Wild West History, a result of the 1875 gold rush that attracted legendary figures like Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. Explore historic Mainstreet, watch a shoot-out reenactment, drop a quarter in a slot machine - this town has a little something for everyone!
If you've never had a chuckwagon supper, here's your chance. Better yet, it comes with a nod to Wild West heritage and an evening filled with fun & laughter.
This is a must-do according to the bride-to-be!
