There are all sorts of things you will hear about Louisiana traffic. Most of you are from the CA Bay Area, which makes traffic in New Orleans pale in comparison. Slidell is about a 39minute drive across lake Pontchartrain on the I-10. There is definitely more to do and see in New Orleans and the short trip to the venue from there makes this a very viable option. You could also book a Hotel in Slidell before the wedding then make a reservation at an AirBNB or Hotel in New Orleans afterwards.
It depends. If you are staying in New Orleans you will need a way to get to the venue in Slidell but we would only advise renting a car for this purpose. While in New Orleans, public transit, uber, and taxi's are cheap and most things are walking distance. With all the good food, we recommend walking unless you don't mind gaining a few pounds. Parking in New Orleans can get expensive and most tour companies like Cajun Encounter Swamp and Plantation tours offer pick-up locations in New Orleans and will drive you to and from the tours.
Yes. There are several hotels in Slidell very close to Palmettos on the Bayou Restaurant. Check our the travel section for info.
In the interest of people being comfortable, semi casual is just fine. Polo's, short sleeved or long sleeved button ups kahkis, blazers or suits (linen) or otherwse are all fine.
One thing about Louisiana is it CAN rain anytime of the year. When the Bride and Groom were engaged in Ocotber of 2022, the weather was sunny and the high temps were in the 70's, with low humidity and a cool evening breeze. Pack like you are camping, have a light rain layer, and a light jacket. Expect the unexpected!
Palmettos on the Bayou Restaurant is in fact, on the Bayou: ( A swampy section of a river or a lake) We are sorry but we are unable to accomodate children under 8 years old. The Bride and Groom want everyone to be able to enjoy their time and celebrate without you or anyone else having to chase your young ones around. This is especially true to those of you participating in the wedding parties. Just be aware that the reception is going to be held on the back deck over the water of Bayou Bonfouca. This back deck has a boat dock without railings for water access. Fun Fact: Louisiana is home to 2 million American Alligators. In the event anyone goes for an unintentional swim, the DJ has been instructed to raise the music volume. (This also goes for over served adults.) Some have opted to bring a family member on the trip so they can have time to relax at the wedding then enjoy all New Orleans has to offer with the kiddos and that family member after the wedding.
By train, Louisiana is about a 2day 5hr trip on Amtrak. Or a 32hr drive by car. These options take a signifigantly longer time but do give you the oppertunity to take that road trip you've been putting off. Flights are around 5hr & 45min usually with a lay over or plane change in Texas. Venue is booked, contracts signed, and deposit's made, so the only non-option is us moving our wedding location.
Southwest has been by far the best and most consistent experience. You get a carry on and personal item as well as a free checked bag for all the souveniers you will be hauling back! You can also pre-book a rental car. What's not to like?
We are convinced the Louisiana has something for everyone. So whether you are a fun loving party animal or a little more boring, there is something here for you. New Orleans is filled with great food, drinks, art, historic buildings, museums, tours, and shops. The Wedding will also be around Halloween so take a look at New Orlean's parade schedule. Check out the "Things to do Page", for some of the Bride and Groom's recomendations.
Grace and Owen took their first trip here together in 2022 when they got engaged. Owen had been to Louisina once before in 2018 for a student trip through the National WWII Museum and being a History major fell in love with the old architecture, food and the scenery. When Owen and Grace went on vacation it seemed like a great location for a proposal! The couples shared love of antique shopping, good food and culture makes New Orleans the perfect place! There must be something in the water down here.
Yes. Some of Louisiana's more famous spots recquire reservations well in advance to go see. If you plan on going to Commander's Palace for brunch book well in advance of your trip. Most of the more common activities stay relatively open however, the Natchez steamboat, and some of the Cajun Encounter's Tours can fill up as well. Anything you for sure want to see or do, prepare for in advance. It makes everything easier.
