The Wilderness Farm, a Legacy of Love and Family The stunning piece of property that would become known as The Wilderness was part of a large land grant in the late 1600s. In the 1680s the first homestead was established by the Martin family, who passed the property down for multiple generations. The smaller wing of this historic home was built by Nicholas Martin in the 1780s, on the footprint of the original house. His son Daniel went on to expand the home, adding the larger wing in the early 1800s. He would later become the 20th Governor of Maryland. This incredible home has been updated and expanded over the centuries yet retains much of its historic glory, and many early outbuildings still exist on the property. The barn where we will celebrate today was built in 1912 and then painstakingly restored later in the 20th century. Megan is proud to be part of the 5th generation of the Outten family to be entrusted with the care and upkeep of this unique property, representing a century-old tradition of love and family. As you take part in the festivities today, we hope you feel the deep history and love baked into this land, as we do. Welcome to The Wilderness! With Love, Megan & Matt
