Early on we weren't about small talk, the night we met we spent our first conversation talking about family hardships in the middle of a campus ministry barbecue. Some sparks flew with our slightly uncomfortable (to others) eye contact. Those sparks kindled into a meaningful friendship after a few dates involving tofu and glow paint. Two years later God lead us down different paths when Patrick lost Him and joined the Navy. Knowing we didn't have God in common meant anything romantic was off the table, but God planned a beautiful opportunity for friendship without an ounce of expectation. We tried to keep in touch, but it got difficult when Patrick went underway for long periods of time. Every time we got off the phone Cassandra prayed, hard. She prayed for him to know God's love for him. After what seemed like a lifetime apart while Cassandra lived in Montana and Patrick in Hawaii, God proved His love to him unexpectedly by redefining the unconditional gift of grace in Patrick's heart. He showed him his identity in Christ as His child and gave him His spirit to be free from fear. One elated phone call from Cassandra after she'd heard the news lead to a breakfast. That lead to a "not-date" in August, a couple of dances at the sunrise saloon, weekly quiet times and fully clothed dips in the river. God had to knock down quite a few walls in Cassandra's fearful and a few times broken heart. He bulldozed them in a third of the time she expected through Patrick's selflessness and patience. We decided to date a few seconds into January. Only two point five months passed before the Spirit tugged on Patrick's heart to propose. When God said it was time, it was time. Despite all of Cassandra's grappling for control His plan could not be thwarted. So now we're here and we hope you can come to celebrate this gift God's given us.
