How We Met

June 2016

After years of NYC working and living, Emily was finally ready to expand her horizons. Morgan, having recently moved to Dallas, started working with Emily on a new account at work. Their daily conference calls quickly transformed into flirting, after starting off as friendly work banter. "He's actually kind of cute,” Emily said to her friends. It didn’t take her long to realize he was a Midwestern sweetheart! Conference calls turned to Snapchat. Snapchat turned to an all nightlong FaceTime. By morning, Morgan had the flight booked for the first visit. When he got to New York, all bets were off. "Things feel different this time", Emily told her roommates and friends. Months and months of visits back and forth ensued. When Morgan got accepted to business school, Emily exclaimed “We’re moving to Iowa?!” Needing reassurance that she was making the right choice, Emily looked to her parents, who had met the exact same way 35 years ago. She took the plunge and met Morgan out in the heartland a few months later, sealing the deal with a trip to the Grand Canyon, where Morgan got down on one knee on January 20th, 2018.

The Proposal

January 2018

In September 2016, Morgan and Emily embarked on a road trip from Dallas to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Half the fun was the journey to and from, as it was an incredible experience that solidified their love, patience, and commitment to each other. Just 16 months later, in January of 2018, Morgan booked a surprise trip for the couple to return to the Grand Canyon, where he planned to pop the question at sunrise while the two looked out over the canyon just like they had on their first visit. The catch? Emily had no idea where they were going until the tickets were printed at the airport. Waking up before sunrise on Saturday morning, Morgan looked out of the cabin window to realize a snowstorm was going to make the views less spectacular than planned, but he convinced Em to go through with the initial plan. As they walked along the path looking out into a thick haze that obscured the views of the canyon, Morgan was dismayed, but when the sun broke through the clouds just for a moment, he seized the opportunity. Never one for taking pictures, Morgan suggested the couple take a selfie now that part of the canyon was finally visible. Luckily, Em didn't notice the abnormality of Morgan's suggestion, or his hand pulling the ring box out of his coat pocket. When she turned back to him, he was on one knee and both broke out in happy tears, as he asked the most important question of his life... The answer was yes!
