We met in 2018 while volunteering at the World Headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses in Warwick, NY, working in Food Service. Somewhere between all the forks, glasses, sweat, and dried bits of old food stuck to our clothes, we found that we shared a real connection, which only deepened the more we got to know each other.
Ryan asked Shae to marry him on a cloudy day, the first weekend of May. For some reason, he was really adamant about going to the park, and the rain in the morning didn't stop it! When they got there, they walked around for what seemed like forever (to Ryan), until they came to a stone path. The path led to a clearing, and lo and behold! An easel, draped in a black sheet and stoically guarded by Ryan's friend, Glen. Suddenly, more friends began to emerge, and while Shae was distracted, Ryan pulled off the sheet to reveal... a painting he had painted for her of a sunrise, which said, "No matter the weather, the sun always shines when I'm with you." He said some sweet words and got down on one knee. There were tears, there were cheers, and most importantly, there was a YES.
Though this year has not been the easiest (for a number of reasons), we can't be thankful enough to have had each other for the portion of it, but also all of you. We just wanted to thank everyone for their support of us and our families during these difficult times, the love and kindness you have all shown has really made what could've been a very hard time, instead very special to us.
