How We MetHow We Met

A Real Meet-Cute Story

Oscar and Brianna’s paths first crossed at the airport. Unknowingly, they took the same shuttle to the airport parking area, unaware that this chance encounter would change their lives forever. That day, Oscar was working later than usual with United, while Brianna was in her third week at Virgin America. As Oscar stood on the bus, he reached into his pocket and accidentally dropped his chapstick. Seated just below him, Brianna noticed as it fell and became amused watching it roll back and forth with the movement of the bus—sliding left, right, forward, and backward—until it eventually rolled past both of them. Curious, she looked up to see if the man who had dropped it would retrieve it. But Oscar, deep in conversation on the phone, hadn’t even noticed. Smiling to herself, Brianna picked up the chapstick and handed it back to him. As Oscar took it, he looked into her eyes and gave a quick nod of thanks. Thinking he was being smooth, he continued chatting with his friend in Spanish, saying, “Hay una chica linda aquí, voy a hablar con ella.” (“There’s a pretty girl here; I’m going to talk to her.”) Little did he know—Brianna spoke Spanish. Intrigued, Oscar struck up a conversation with Brianna, asking about her job at Virgin America. He mentioned that he was new to the area and would love a tour around San Jose. As they talked, Brianna couldn’t help but notice his bright yellow motorcycle helmet and matching jacket. Caught up in the moment, Oscar stayed on the bus past his stop. When Brianna’s stop arrived, he casually said, “This is my stop too,” and walked her to her car. For their first date, Oscar took Brianna on a motorcycle ride through the Saratoga Hills to Alice’s Restaurant. They talked about everything under the sun, discovering a shared love for travel. Their conversation was so effortless and exciting that they toyed with the idea of taking a trip together. The date went so well that they extended it into dinner. By their third date, they weren’t just talking about traveling—they were doing it. They flew to Mexico City together. At first, they weren’t sure if it would be an amazing adventure or a crazy idea. It turned out to be the perfect mix of both, and they’ve been traveling together ever since.
