Curious, she looked up to see if the man who had dropped it would retrieve it. But Oscar, deep in conversation on the phone, hadn’t even noticed. Smiling to herself, Brianna picked up the chapstick and handed it back to him. As Oscar took it, he looked into her eyes and gave a quick nod of thanks. Thinking he was being smooth, he continued chatting with his friend in Spanish, saying, “Hay una chica linda aquí, voy a hablar con ella.” (“There’s a pretty girl here; I’m going to talk to her.”) Little did he know—Brianna spoke Spanish. For their first date, Oscar took Brianna on a motorcycle ride through the Saratoga Hills to Alice’s Restaurant. They talked about everything under the sun, discovering a shared love for travel. Their conversation was so effortless and exciting that they toyed with the idea of taking a trip together. The date went so well that they extended it into dinner.
