How We Met

Hallmark ain't got nothin' on this...

(Rachel's POV): We first met while working on a Christian audio drama in NY. Oscar would be working behind the scenes, I in front of the mic. After my plane landed in Rochester, I was told I would NOT be picked up by my original contact, but by someone named "Oscar". As I exited baggage claim, I looked around for a middle-aged, balding man, as that was surely what anyone named "Oscar" must look like, right? Imagine my surprise when I spotted my name on a sign... held by a handsome guy in a cute jacket! He had no way of knowing it, but Oscar was actually standing there, holding a sign with his future wife's name on it! What are the odds of that happening?? Fast-forward nearly two and a half years, and we were engaged; talk about a "pickup" that worked out! (Oscar’s POV:) I just got word from my co-worker that he couldn’t pick up a certain actress from the airport and that I needed to adjust my plans. Once I arrived, my pair of eyes met those of a bright and beautiful blue pair on someone else’s face. Covered in color and with a bright personality, I finally met my future fiancée, a pretty little tamalito that’s been served from the most caring pair of Mexican grandma hands, who’s sweet voice says to me, “Mijo, duermarte. ¿Quieres arroz con leche?” Yes... that’s how it feels to meet your partner when you don’t even know it yet. To know that you’ve met someone who’s willing to give as much love as you do feels like a match made in heaven. I do have to go on record and apologize to her family and friends about this random Mexican stranger that came into Indiana, and then expresses interest in a dating relationship with Rachel Marley. And to my family who still haven’t met her, I will say “See?! I TOLD you that she was real!” City boy meets country girl sounds like a classic hallmark movie plot. I’m glad to be the lead role along with my Rachel Marley, the award-winning, world-famous actress.

And then came COVID...

After the holidays, we were excited to put our wedding plans into high gear! Wedding expos, venue decisions, and vendor meetings made the first few months fly by! Occasionally, we heard news of a new virus to be wary of, but like most people at the time, we just tried to be more germ-cautious and didn't think too much of it. March roared in, and we were now officially only 4 months from our wedding date. But suddenly, everything came to a screeching halt. The Governor issued stay at home order; businesses, schools, and churches shut down. It was like someone hit the "pause" button for everything... including our wedding plans. This was one of the hardest times we have endured as a couple. For nearly a month, we didn't see each other in person. Since that time in March, nearly every detail of our wedding/reception changed. But through it all, our commitment to love each other has only grown! Now, we are so excited to have our new wedding date, and to be so close to becoming Mr. and Mrs. Corral! We want to say thank you to everyone who has helped, encouraged, and prayed for us during this time. You mean more to us than we can say! May the love you have shown us be reflected in the love we have for eachother. Soli deo gloria!
