As long as stars are above us... A love so blessed #SydO26
This is not your typical "boy meets girl" love story. Ours began in an elevator at work in Nigeria… and with a selfie. One lovely June morning, Osaye from HR was taking selfies in the elevator at the start of what was to be a very long workday when Sydney from Technical Services casually asked if he could join in. Osaye obliged, thinking nothing of it. A simple moment turned into the beginning of an unexpected friendship. Not long after, Sydney started looking for reasons to spend more time together, usually by trying to convince Osaye to have lunch with him. Those invitations were politely and consistently declined, but persistence proved one of Sydney's strengths. As time went on, the friendship naturally grew. They discovered they were both Chelsea fans. Sydney moved again; he paid for Osaye to join the company's Fantasy Premier League group. What followed was endless football banter, celebrating wins, arguing over losses, and finding reasons to keep the conversations going. You gotta admit that was a classic! Then life took them in different directions in 2021. Sydney moved to Canada while Osaye moved to the United States. Special shoutout to WhatsApp for keeping folks connected across different countries. Despite the change in zip codes, they stayed connected and continued their friendship, mostly through football banter. On October 5th 2022, Sydney would call Osaye on a fine evening to propose a future that was way more than friendship. Osaye was definitely caught off guard and dismissed the idea, but that phone call changed the trajectory of their friendship. So it began, the age-old wooing stage. Osaye would consider Sydney's proposal but asked for time to pray about it. Eventually, time and chance would align. Osaye was planning a trip to Toronto, Canada, to visit family. Sydney invited Osaye to Calgary, Canada. Rumor has it that to date, Osaye still doesn't understand why she stepped out of character, got on a plane, and headed to Calgary. We guess that she wasn't the only one praying. They explored the charming Rocky Mountains of Banff, took in the beauty of Lake Louise, hiked up Sulphur Mountain, and somewhere between all the adventures and carefully planned moments, they realized this story was becoming something more. Sydney, in his persistent and ever-calculating nature, seized the moment and asked to take the friendship further, which would later become the only sad moment in an almost perfect trip. Osaye wasn't ready; she was still praying about it... Remember the persistence we talked about earlier, yeah... definitely Sydney's strength because in his famous words, "you're hard work but you're good for me". He refused to give up on their friendship since "God didn't say No," but the seed so carefully sown in Calgary began to grow, and eventually Osaye would receive an answer to her prayers that would delight Sydney's heart. No biggie, it only took 16 months, eh! In December 2023, Sydney visited Boston in search of answers and got his Yes! The friendship officially became a relationship. From there, they embraced the long-distance ghetto! regular visits, countless flights, and making memories whenever and wherever they could, and with the help of the most intentional friends. In June of 2025, they had made plans to meet for a vacation in Philadelphia… or so Osaye thought. Sydney had a surprise of his own. Instead of flying directly to Philly, he changed his itinerary, flew to Boston, and completely caught Osaye off guard with a proposal. At this point, you'd think it was an easy "Yes," but alas, Sydney got an "I thought you'd never ask," which is probably as good as it gets. The next day, they headed to Philadelphia as newly engaged best friends and future spouses. Turns out the guy who asked to join a selfie was stepping into our love story all along. We're taking the final question back to the place of the first "Yes"!
