This is the kind of stuff that produces television sitcoms. You can almost hear Becca and Corey narrating it to their future kids. Flash back to December 1, 2012, though, where it all happened. Becca was in a Christmas production at church. Corey had come with a buddy to watch one of their mutual friends who was also in the production. After they were introduced, Corey came along to the cast party. Becca had a weird gut feeling and told their friend that she was obsessed. Love was in the air, and that was how their kids’ mother and father met.

The story continues, and it is this chapter that is still up for debate to this day. It all boils down to how you use the word “date.” Sometimes it’s just an item on a calendar, but in other cases it’s an event. Worse yet, sometimes the central characters don’t realize they are not on the same page here. Flip back your calendar to March 30th, 2013. Corey had asked Becca if she wanted to “hang out.” Being friends before, Becca thought nothing of it. It was a Saturday and hanging out with friends was just what Becca did. Little did she know that this invitation was a little different. To start it off, Becca interrupted the hang out and dragged Corey to a dinner with her whole family and friends because, hey, free food, right?! Then they went to the mall because there’s not much else to do in Amarillo, followed by bowling. They ended the day at Starbucks. It was just another Saturday night. No big deal. Corey ordered a large hot chocolate. After what seemed an eternity of listening to Becca ramble on about this and that, she then knocked over Corey’s entire drink on him. And Corey, of course, was wearing white shoes, which took on a nice shade of brown. With whipped cream. His response was to laugh it off. He asked Becca take a picture, and said, “It’ll be funny! I’ll post it on Instagram with #FirstDate.” Mic drop. Whaaaat? Queue the TikTok song "Oh no, Oh no, Oh no no no no no". And thus, their first date came to an end, without Becca even knowing it until that epic spill.

Apparently that first date was a success. One thing led to another, and another, and four short days later on April 3rd, they made it official. They were an item. From that point forward, “hanging out” took on the same meaning for both of them. In just 96 hours they went from social faux pas to spilling the beans on their interests, aspirations, and favorite stain remover. Such is life, and sometimes it comes served in Venti proportions.

Skip forward six years, and once again, Corey had something in mind that he didn’t tell Becca about. This time, though, the “hanging out” part was much more extravagant than just whiling away a Saturday night. May 25, 2019 Becca was off to Scandinavia on a study abroad trip, and in her absence, Corey hatched a plan. Under the pretense of his college graduation party upon her return, he was secretly planning it to be an engagement party. Extremely jet lagged and oblivious to all the signs, Becca once again showed up for what should have been a fairly basic backyard picnic with family. But noooo! Corey was able to engineer a complete surprise, even sending Becca fake speeches to thank everyone who got him through college to make it real. But he was also channeling his inner Spielberg, creating a video that would be played at the party for everyone. And in that video, he deftly segued from thanking everyone for supporting him through university, to asking Becca to marry him. And if that video were ever released to the critics, they would surely give it two thumbs up. It was a video six years in the making, and now with two more on top of that, the reason why you are planning to be with them on June 26, 2021. Come hang out with us! You never know what will happen.
