Monticchiello
The first document relating to the free Municipality of Monticchiello bears the date 1243. That moment marks the start of the most flourishing and glorious period in the history of this fortified village: the construction works of the Cassero, the walls and the Church are completed; crafts and trade are developed; agriculture is improved; the population increases and the Municipality issues statutes in the vernacular language: the people take an active role in political life by making their voices heard through the so-called Council of “one (member) per family”.
Montepulciano
Perched on the top of a hill south of Tuscany is a medieval town of rare beauty that certainly deserves to be visited ! Pienza
Is a small village in southern Tuscany, in the famous Val d'Orcia, absolutely worth visiting. It sits a top of a hill, clearly visible from Terre di Nano and located about 12 km from there. Pienza overlooks the entire Orcia valley offering breathtaking views all around. This charming village is widely known as the "ideal" city of the Renaissance, the creation of the great humanist Enea Silvio Piccolomini, who later became Pope Pius II.
