We love that our guests are asking such a mindful question. While we are beyond thrilled to celebrate with our loved ones in Hawai'i, please understand that Hawai'i is more than a "paradise" or "tropical playground." It is place where people live, work, and worship. We encourage you to learn about Hawaiian culture and history and put those learnings into action while visiting. To avoid overcrowding and the depletion of natural resources, we ask that you do not geotag any photographs you choose to post online. Respect local customs and wildlife, much of which is endangered and protected by federal and/or state law. This includes refraining from touching the local wildlife (e.g. sea turtles and monk seals). Leave places better than they were when you arrived. When possible, choose local businesses to support. And lastly, slow down, this isn't the mainland. We've included a couple resources below to learn about Hawaiian history, identity, common phrases, and issues currently impacting the islands. https://www.gohawaii.com/hawaiian-culture https://www.civilbeat.org/
Our dress code is black tie. As our wedding will largely occur outside, we recommend women leave their stilettoes at home.
Please note that hotel accommodations in Hawai'i differ greatly from what you will find on the mainland. Our wedding is taking place on Oahu's North Shore, about an hour, from town (Honolulu). We recommend staying at the Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore for the night before and the night of the wedding and if you wish, elsewhere on the island for other evenings of your trip. We are reserving a hotel block at Turtle Bay Resort, please see the travel page of this website for more information on the hotel block. The condos at Turtle Bay on the North Shore, Airbnb, and Vrbo are alternative options. We understand traveling can be both fun *and* stressful. Please reach out to us directly if we can be of any help! https://www.turtlebayresort.com/ https://www.turtlebaycondos.com/
