Geo and I met on a blind date. We were set up by my friend Andrea, who is married to Geo’s friend, Ron. To be honest guys— it did not go well 😂. Geo was a late (by a few hours) and by the time he called to say he was on the way, I had changed to sweats and a hoodie, thinking he had blown the date off. When he called me to say that he was still on the way to see me, I told him I would only go out with him if I didn’t have to change out of my sweatsuit. Annoyed at how long I had waited, I didn’t want to get dolled up again, just in case the date bombed. Which I was expecting it would. He agreed to the sweats, so I slipped into some Nike’s, and met up with him. We agreed to meet at a Starbucks and chat before going on a official date. I think we both built in that buffer, just in case we didn’t like each other. I mean, would you wanna go through an awkward date if you didn’t like the other person? Anyhow, I’m glad we did that! After five minutes of talking, I completely forgot how late he was, and started regretting not dressing up. When he asked if I wanted to go down the road to grab a bite to eat, and have a real date, at first I declined, citing my laid back attire. He didn’t take no for an answer, and within three weeks of meetings, we were officially dating. Looking back on how crazy the day was when Geo and I met, I know we were put together not by chance. God definitely orchestrated our relationship, and I’m loving living life with my best friend ❤️.
It all happened so fast. One minute you’re going on a blind date and then next you’re on one knee asking somebody to spend the rest of their life with you. The story of how I asked Ontaya to marry me was a simple yet very premeditated one. That weekend was a great weekend for many reasons other than the proposal. In the span of just three days, Ontaya received a promotion at her job, and I had just finally purchased the car that I’ve been wanting for some time.. so it wasn’t out of the ordinary to ask her if she wanted to hop in my new car and go celebrate at a nice restaurant. I’ll never forget that day. I was crazy anxious. We went to a restaurant called HavanaGrill, and we absolutely LOVED the food . Trying to keep it cool, I asked her if she wanted to go for a nice drive after dinner and maybe go on a hike since it had been a nice day. After a 15 minute drive we ended up on a hill with a decent view of the town below. I let her get in front of me so by the time she spun back around I would already be on one knee but before I could even get the ring ready she turned around and said she wanted to try a different spot. We reached the second spot with a way better view over all off Colorado Springs! As we approached the view point, there was a couple there already, and my nervousness started to spike. I wanted to get down on one knee in private. Well God always makes a way. As we approached the view point the couple walked away and I saw my perfect opportunity. I held Ontaya from the back as we are looked over a beautiful sunset over the mountains, and then I let her go as she remained in awe of the view. As she turned around to take a seat on the ledge, I got down one knee she stopped talking mid sentence. We stared at each other for a few seconds as she began to cry! I popped the question! She said yes and I will never be the same man again.
