How We Met

January 2016

After church service on January 2016, Abieyuwa began meeting different people since she was new to Chicago and the church. She was then introduced to Onome. He was friendly, outgoing and personable. He told a joke to break the ice but Abieyuwa did not find him funny and was not amused so she simply replied with a hello and kept it going. We would have a few conversations at church events and soon developed a strong friendship. We went on our first date in April 2016. I found her to be different than any other woman during the date though it was a bit awkward. So we went on more dates and she started to open up more. We started dating in February 2017. Our first priority was keeping God at the center of our relationship which is easier said than done. The first eight months of our dating relationship were the most difficult. After many arguments, we realized that we needed to remember our friendship and not complicate things because we were dating. One question to consider while dating was “do I treat God like this?”. The answer most of the time was yes. Asking that question constantly allowed us to forgive, address issues, and give grace because nobody is perfect. We keep each other laughing and embraced our dating relationship even more and BAM, now we are about to get married !!

The Proposal

September 12th, 2019

This day, Abieyuwa graduated from Chamberlain University with her Bachelor degree in Nursing. It was a day filled with joy because her family flew in from California and all of her closest friends were there to celebrate also. Little did Abieyuwa know, it was also the day Onome was going to propose to her. As the graduation ceremony ended, all her family and friends left right away. Abieyuwa was confused as to why no one was there but Onome "convinced" her that they were all by the lake so we can all have a nice graduation photoshoot. She was very skeptical but kept her thoughts to her. As we arrived to the lake with a beautiful sunset view, Abieyuwa saw everyone with their phones out and that is when she realized that "this ain't no graduation photoshoot". As we approached the candle lit location, Onome told everything he appreciated about Abieyuwa, reminisced about our adventures, then spoke about his intention to spend his rest of his life with her. He got down on one knee and asked her if she wanted to marry him. Abieyuwa instantly said "YES". With all her family and friends present, it made for a perfect day with the perfect people. A day we will never forget. A day where it was going to be.......... #Obahorafterall.
