Davis: "So, just how important is this boat adventure for you?" That was the first message I sent to Ashley after matching with her on an app that will remain "nameless" (if you know, you know). Did I own a boat to take her out on? Absolutely not. But that wasn't going to stop me from trying to get her attention one way or another. After exchanging a few texts back and forth (she will say that is the understatement of the year), I wasted no time asking her to meet me one night after work. Surprisingly, she agreed and we were able to get together at Caet a few days later. We probably spent two hours talking that night, but I knew two things within the first 30 minutes of meeting her. First, she is a huge Ole Miss fan and, obviously, I thought this might be an issue if we were together when November rolled around. Second, it seemed like we had known each other for years even though we had literally just met. After our third date, it became clear that we did not "match" with each other by accident. There was an obvious spark between us and, after making up for lost time with beach trips, date nights, Hootie & the Blowfish, and stops in New Orleans and yes, Oxford too...I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Ashley by my side. I never thought that I would be so thankful for that "nameless" app that allowed us to swipe right on each other, but if 2020 has taught me anything, it's to never say never. On July 11, 2020, in the middle of a year where it seemed like nothing good was ever going to happen, I asked Ashley to marry me. As soon as she said "yes," we both realized that 2020 wasn't going to be so bad after all.
