On a warm Spring day in May, Kristen and her friend Chanell decided to go to their local bar, Big Chief, where Kristen's favorite DC DJ (Jerome Baker III) was spinning. Chanell and Kristen noticed two guys in the corner who seemed as if they could enjoy some company. Kristen said to Chanell, "he's cute" referring to Chris, and they walked over. Chanell, being the more outgoing of the friend duo, started up conversation with Chris and his friend Kenny. Come to find out, they were there supporting a friend who owned a catering business who provided the food at Big Chief that day. All four of them had some good conversation, but before Kristen and Chanell left, Chris did not ask Kristen for her contact information because he assumed she was not interested because of her shy demeanor; however, all four followed one another on Instagram. That evening, Kristen sent Chris a direct message saying "it was nice meeting you". Not too long after, Chris sent Kristen a message saying, "You too. We should hang out some time." Then Kristen sent Chris her number, and the rest is history.

After the wedding of Chris' colleague in Outer Banks, North Carolina, Kristen just expected to go back to the hotel room and sleep. After returning to the hotel, Chris suggested they go for a walk on the beach, so Kristen put on a sweatshirt and workout pants and just went along, since the hotel was on the beach. Mind you, it was April and about 40 degrees. They went to walk on the beach and Chris wanted Kristen to listen to the intro of Wale’s song "Matrimony". It was a dialogue between Jerry Seinfeld and the rapper Wale discussing marriage and how marriage is like any growth. "It's gonna be new. You're gonna have a new life, you're gonna be a new person." After Kristen listened to the dialogue while hugging Chris, she knew the moment was here because she could feel his heart beating fast and hard. Then after a heartfelt exchange of words Chris got on one knee (with an amazing ring) and said "Kristen Cloteal Moore, will you marry me" and Kristen said, "of course I'll marry you!". Then they went back to the hotel (after Kristen did a gymnastics front roll in the sand) and FaceTimed their parents (who knew about the pending engagement) and their close friends. Kristen and Chris cannot wait to spend their life together filled with love, laughter, adventure, and a family!
