The Proposal

June 4, 2023

Jason and I once took a romantic weekend trip to Broken Bow and found a happy getaway. The following year we were talking about a summer vacation and the obvious choice was to take Allie to see Broken Bow. We were excited to take her hiking along new landscapes she is unfamiliar with, as well as showing her what a true sky full of stars looks like. It even lined up with our two year anniversary! So we booked the trip, made schedule changes, and had a plan! Little did I know I was just being placated. We got to Broken Bow sooner than check-in time for the tiny cabin we had rented for the three of us, so we killed some time in town and then stopped at a restaurant. When the time came, we finally started to make our way and got.... a bit lost, thanks to overgrown foliage blocking ALL of the signs. At that point, Jason seemed a bit more panicky than the given situation. Eventually, we found the right path, but we pulled up to a much bigger cabin than just the three of us would've needed, so I thought we were still lost..... until I noticed my Dad's car, and then my brother's; my panic set in. "What's going on?" was on repeat out of my mouth. From the front door filed my family, and his, as a complete surprise. I was 100% blind sided. He rented the cabin, invited both families out to Broken Bow, and all behind my back!!!! We dropped off our bags inside the front door and he grabbed my hand and said "Come on, let's check out the river" and led me down to the dock on the back side of the cabin. I was incredibly suspicious because no one came with us. Not Leah to play with Allie, not Mom to tell me cool Oklahoma facts, no one. On our way back up from the river, Jason stopped me at the first landing and got down on one knee. He opened with "If you haven't already guessed, this isn't a family vacation for our two year anniversary" and proceeded to tell me how happy he was. He ended with a verse from one of our favorite songs and asked "Have you made plans for the rest of your life?" Obviously, I started crying, and leaned down to kiss him.. but I was so happy that I forgot to even answer (spoiler, I said yes). This man has made me the happiest and most secure I have ever felt. Every day he surprises me more, I had no idea it was coming. As cliche as it sounds (and no I don't care), he is the love of my life, my best friend, and my other half. I love our family together, I love our time together, I love him. We then spent three glorious days as one giant family, his and mine, in one cabin together enjoying the beauty of Broken Bow and all it has to offer.
