Matt and I met in February of 2015. I had just moved back to Texas from Colorado and was looking for a place to work when my sister extraordinaire and Maid of Honor Madison suggested the restaurant she managed at, Pappadeaux. I was a little reluctant to get back into the restaurant industry, but she said I had to at least let her hire me as a hostess so I could play on the Pappadeaux softball team and I didn’t have to actually work there. (She likes to win.) I laughed but agreed. A few days later we had our first softball practice. Madison and I got there early to stretch, warm up, and so I could remind Madison how to play. ;) Well, as my new teammates are arriving I’m sizing them up, like this guy would be a good pitcher, this guy’s fast he’ll be lead off. Then I met our Coach Lindsey. (She was 30 minuets late :D.) I could tell right off the bat (softball pun) she wasn’t there to lose. She divided everyone up for drills and then turned to Madison and asked where’s Matt? She said “Megan texted me; they’re parking.” So I’m running drills with Lindsey; she’s hitting grounders to everyone lined up at shortstop, they throw to first base, first base throws it to me at home plate. I’m just doing my thing when here comes this 6’4”, rustic, Lumber Jack of a man. I’m a little busy swooning so when the girl at first throws the ball to me she notices a little too late I am SO not looking at her... Good thing she had a terrible arm; the ball went way to my left. I gain my composure and Lindsey hits a few more. She turns to Matt and asks if he needs to warm up. Then, the most amazing thing happened. He spoke. In the words of Mr. Kelse Lee “Matt Dillon, if God himself had a human voice it’d sound like yours.” From the moment I heard his deep, gruff voice, I knew I wanted to get to know him. On the way home from practice I told Madison I would come and work with her. Getting to know Matthew has been one of the best experiences of my life. I can’t wait to spend my life with you.
