Alex and Joe met during their first day of Orientation Week at their alma mater, Wingate University. Considering her life-long background in dance and color guard, Alex is usually very coordinated and light-on-her-feet. But as fate would have it, the crowded gymnasium made Alex stumble, which made her step right onto Joe's foot. In typical Joe-fashion, he was probably the one who apologized first.

During the Orientation activities, the students were asked to separate themselves by birth-month. Alex made her way to the February group and found Joe already standing there. "What are you doing here?!" Alex asked. "This is my birth month! What are YOU doing here?" Joe replied. "This is MY birth month!" Alex called out. Shortly after, Alex and Joe found out that their birthdays are only 1 day apart from each other. Joe's birthday is February 25th, and Alex's birthday is February 26th. They were also born in the same year, 1998. After their initial meeting, Alex and Joe became good friends through their freshman year of college. Despite growing up over 30 minutes away from each other in different towns, they found out that they were both born only hours apart in the same hospital in Concord, NC. Alex and Joe began dating in November of 2016, and the rest is history!
