Cody and I had been in the same friend group for almost a year before we ever had a conversation with one another, besides the polite hellos and small talk. When we met, he was dating someone and I was getting over a breakup. Not exactly the most romantic situation! 😂 Nine months later, the first night we connected was at a house party thrown by a mutual friend. And we were both single, ding ding! I mean, I always thought he was cute. Of course. But I can be painfully shy around new people and second-guess myself too much to make the first move! We bonded over music, drinks were had, he was incredibly kind to me. At that moment, I truly just thought I made a friend. For the next few weeks, we would hang out almost every day. We would watch Disney movies or go on walks and share our favorite books with one another. As the friendship grew, so did the feelings. After a couple weeks went by, he asked me to come over to his house on Valentines Day. When I arrived, he gifted me a beautiful book of F. Scott Fitzgerald's most famous works. He told me he went to multiple stores looking for something that he thought I would like, and then he teased me for only liking authors who were dead 😂 I told him it was one of the most thoughtful gifts anyone had ever given me, and then asked why he wanted to get me a Valentines Day gift. He told me he really liked me, and asked me to be his girlfriend. Super sweet right? Here's the kicker, I said no. At least not yet, I wanted to get to know him a little better and strengthen our friendship before we jumped into a relationship. He was kind and understanding, and after a few more weeks of late night snacks, movie marathons, and goodnight texts. We were hooked. Since that Valentines Day we have been inseparable. I love him more and more every single day and he is truly my perfect human being. It took a long time to start our relationship, but since then we have had the most beautiful and messy life together. I can't wait to marry my best friend and become his wife.
