During high school, we both were affiliated with the track teams at our high schools. Around sophomore year, we met at a regional track meet that both schools attended. Brian was immediately smitten with me and tried everything to get my number. So I finally gave in and we started communicating throughout the school year. Now I told him if my dad picks up, you better hang up, because boyfriends are not allowed until 12th grade!! He followed directions until a certain point, and before I knew it he had came over to visit and met my mom and dad! My dad mentioned how polite and respectful he was, but still told him he could not leave the living room, yell if he need the restroom! And he was serious! (LOL) We kept in touch until Summer and he moved to Maryland! We fell out of contact after a few weeks! Years went by and we went our separate ways! I went to The Southern University and he attended Texas Southern University in Houston. After we both graduated, we ran across one another, but stayed friends. We reconnected in our 30s, once Brian located my Facebook page and began sending a plethora of messages. He was in Louisiana and wanted to hang out, I wasn't sold just yet! But, he laid it on thick! We went on dates every single day! We would laugh together, he would listen to my bad days and vice versa, give each other advice and encouragement and it was then that I thought this could be it!

In my family we have a tradition where we always open the gifts up after church on the night of Christmas Eve! So, it was just like any other Christmas, except it was very intimate and just Brian and I and my mom, which is the norm for me! This is why I never imagined when all the gifts were opened and I turned around he would be trying to nervously pour his heart out, on one knee in front of the christmas tree! I was super suprised! I definitely said yes! And get this! Mom knew all along!!!!
