For 2,000 years, the Catholic Church has taught that Jesus Christ is present in body, blood, soul and divinity in the Eucharist (John 6, specifically 6:53-56). When we receive Him in Holy Communion, it is an expression of complete devotion to all that the Catholic Church teaches, believes, and confesses (Corinthians 11:27-30). Non-Catholics are not in full communion with Christ's Catholic Church; therefore, to receive Him would be contrary to acknowledging the Church as the one true Church and that we are all apart of one Mystical Body of Christ. If you wish to receive a blessing during communion, cross your arms in an "X" across your chest during Communion or stayed seated. Please see Fr. Mike's video for greater understanding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jxwGIXfoOo
If you are Catholic, have received your first communion, and you are in a State of Grace, you may receive the Eucharist. Being in a State of Grace means you are free of mortal sin and pleasing to God. If you are unsure of whether or not you're in a State of Grace, confession (located at the front of the church when you enter) will be available prior to the start of our Mass!
The Latin Mass also known as the Extraordinary form of the Mass was the way Catholics celebrated Mass for several centuries prior to 1967. After the 2nd Vatican Council (1962-1967) the mode of the Mass was changed to what we have today, called the Novus Ordo Mass. We believe the Latin Mass is a more reverent form of the Mass and offers a more conducive environment for prayer and celebration to Our Lord.
