On July 28, 2015, Tristan and I started our first jobs at Brookshire's in Kilgore. We got hired at the same time and went through training together; thus began our friendship. Around the time of my 17th birthday, I jokingly asked him what he was going to get me. To my surprise, he said that he would take me to dinner at Chili's. After we hit it off at Chili's, I invited him to come to a birthday dinner with my high school friends on January 30, 2016. We ate at Olive Garden and then went to the mall until it closed. The whole time, my friends pressured him to ask me out, so he did in the parking lot of the Longview Mall.
During the days leading up to the proposal, Tristan and Becca were scheming. Tristan had bought fairy lights and flowers and reserved a room at Silver Grizzly Espresso in Longview. I had been staying in Tyler the week before, as I was dog-sitting for the Tolers. So on Friday, I was starting to get sick and eager to be home and see my parents. When Tristan asked me to go somewhere, I said no. But he said there was an event happening at Silver Grizzly that I wouldn't want to miss. My parents also lied and told me that they were going to see a movie, so now there was no point in me going home. When we got to Silver Grizzly, there were a ton of people there, filling up every table in the front room, so I still thought there was an event. It wasn't until he walked me back to the reserved room that I realized what was happening. Becca set up the room beautifully and both of our families were there. When he proposed, I didn't hear a word that he said. The only thing I remember is the whole cafe clapping when I said yes.
