Eighteen Years ago we met in the Halls of FIU, immersed in our GREEK lives we crossed paths often. We became best of friends during college but life had a way of sending us in different directions. As the years went by and life caught up, we found ourselves together again 3500 miles away from our first encounter. We picked up where we left off and we jumped from the friend zone into the relationship zone. Chris' version: In 2006 I was pledging a fraternity at FIU, it is common practice that the fraternity and sorority introduce their new members to the other group. I was meeting the new members when i first saw Onaida, and all jokes aside it felt like i was struck by cupid, she was the most beautiful girl i had ever seen in my life. Days after the first meeting I was asking around if anyone knew who she was and what her name was. "Naturally" months later we became close friends, and a few years after that we both left in different directions across the United States. 10 years later we reconnected in California and the rest is history.
It was New Years Eve, both of our families were in town visiting us on the west coast, we decided to celebrate the holiday overlooking the ocean in Huntington Beach. We arrived moments before sunset, and we were all walking the boardwalk enjoying the moment. Chris took my hand and asked if I would like a walk on the beach. As we walked towards the water he began to discuss the history of our relationship and how we ended up at this moment. While I playfully attempted to take pictures and ask him why he was acting "so weird". He asked me to pause for a moment and before I knew it he was on one knee. I reacted the exact opposite, one would expect but said, "yes" and we were engaged and never looked back.
Eager to start our future and family, we planned a 2020 wedding and as everyone knows the Global COVID- 19 Pandemic hit. We knew we waited long enough and had to make things official even if it meant having the party at a later time. We now have three angels we get to call our babies, and we get to call each other Mr. and Mrs. Yanes everyday. True to our love story, life happens and plans change. We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in Greece!
