How we MetHow we Met

First comes Jollof Rice, Then love at first sight, Then being best friends and now Married.

Bola’s Perspective We met at a mutual friend’s place. I was home alone, super hungry, and had the day off. I was scrolling through Snapchat and saw my friends having a get-together. I messaged, “Do y’all have jollof rice over there?” My friend replied, “Of course. Pull up!” Say less. I jumped into my Nissan Altima and headed straight there. I didn’t even bother to dress up, no makeup, just casual Bola on a mission for food. When I got there, I called my friend because parking was a struggle. While trying to park, I saw someone come out of the house. And then it happened, everything blurred, and it was like I was in a K-drama. He was tall, with pink lips, a big chest, and six packs. He walked in slow motion, and the song "Sacrifice" by Elton John came on the radio. I gasped. The timing and the vibe were perfect. He smiled at me. Boom. I forgot how to park. My hunger disappeared. My heart was doing gymnastics. And then my friend popped out and ruined my slow-mo love scene. That was the first time I saw Chuks. I didn’t even know his name yet, but something shifted. Chuks’ Perspective I was invited to my friend’s place for a hangout. After some laughs and games, I stepped out for air. I wasn’t wearing my glasses, so I couldn’t see clearly, but I noticed someone struggling to parallel park. She kept trying, and I got curious. Eventually, she parked and stepped out, and I saw this tiny, pretty girl. I was intrigued. She walked in, and during the games, she kept looking at me. I wanted to connect, so I casually joined one of her Snapchat videos. I didn’t get her number, but the name Bola stuck. Bola's Perspective Again A few weeks later, it was my friend’s birthday. I begged her to invite Chuks. Yes, I’d already found him on Instagram and Facebook. I was crushing, hard. This time, I came prepared, outfit laid out, makeup on point, nerves at an all-time high. I kept asking, “Is he coming? Has he arrived?” The moment he stepped in, I panicked and ran into a room like a literal weirdo. I kept peeking like a spy and made sure to walk past him at least three times. Subtle, I know. Later that night, my friend (God bless her nosy matchmaking soul) told me and Chuks to go downstairs and grab a mattress. We never got that mattress. Instead, we walked around the beach, just the two of us, talking about gym, goals, and dreams. I don’t even remember all we discussed, I was floating. Then he reached for my hand. I sank. I melted. That was it. By the end of the night, he asked for my Snapchat. Victory. Chuks Perspective Again I was invited to another party. My friend kept asking what exact time I’d arrive, which was weird. I had no idea Bola would be there. Honestly, I didn’t remember her name, just that she was the pretty girl with the great smile (and yeah, big boobs). When I walked in, I saw someone run into the bedroom like lightning. I laughed, it was her. I said hi to everyone, including her. Later that night, we were sent to get a mattress. It was awkward at first, but I started asking her questions to make her comfortable. We talked, and it clicked. She was so grounded, mature, and thoughtful. She wasn’t like the girls I usually meet. While we were chatting, my mom kept calling me (it was getting late). Bola teased, “Are you a mama’s boy?” I laughed and said, “No, I just have a caring family.” We went to the patio and kept talking. Bola was a little tipsy and very goofy. That’s when I really fell for her. I didn’t want to leave, even though I had work the next day. I was stuck on her smile. I got her Snapchat instead of her phone number because I wanted to play it smooth. And I knew this wasn’t just a vibe. It was something more. Both From there, we started chatting, then texting, then sending memes, and then calling. We went on our first date not long after. And now look at us. We’re getting married!

ProposalProposal

Birthday turned Proposal

From the Bride (Bola): It happened on my birthday, a day already special, but this time, unforgettable. I had seen and even worn the ring before (yes, I know! 😂), so I suspected it was coming eventually, but not that day. Chuks had been disappearing a lot, but I didn’t think too much of it. When I walked in and saw the space, I was speechless. He had decorated everything himself using my own pieces from storage, because he knew exactly what I loved and the vibe I would want. It was warm, upscale, and so “me.” And then he proposed. I said yes through tears and a full heart. From the Groom (Chuks): As I set everything up, I was overwhelmed with emotion. I couldn’t believe I was about to propose to the most incredible woman I’ve ever met. I wanted the space to feel like her - soft, beautiful, full of intention. I used her own decor, because no one knows her better than she knows herself… but I wanted to show her just how well I know her too. And when she walked in… I knew. This was it. My forever.
