Yes, that is correct. Although there was some work put in before this event, A tamale was the beginning of a wonderful love story that happened in the heart of the Bay Area. Omar and Melanie met in Bible college during the semester after the COVID lockdown happened. Tents and gas tank heaters were placed along the parking lot of campus and masks were a thing (yeah that was crazy) Anyways, Omar began to notice Melanie during this time, as he made frequent stops to the college coffee shop and was greatly encouraged when a little birdie told the news that Melanie had some interest in him too! Omar began trying to make a way to talk to Melanie more and more; those Java junction visits became more frequent! One Wednesday night, as the bucket campaign was happening in North Valley Baptist Church, Omar went to a table where there was tamales being sold. It was the Lord’s grace he was able to purchase just a few tamales before they ran out of them! He made his way to the coffee shop to share with Melanie <3 And that is how this wonderful love story began; at least it began to take off.

It was the middle of Melanie's junior year, when in college chapel the staff called for some testimonies and a certain Omar Lemus started speaking. She has always heard of him and maybe even briefly crossed paths with him, but never really talked or interacted with him. However, there was something about him that day in chapel that piqued her interest - though she would never act upon it because she is very demure and mindful. Then over winter break - unbeknownst to her - an anonymous little bird spilled the tea about Melanie's little crush and it just so happened to fall upon Omar' ears. His visits to the Java and the Grille seems like fateful coincidences; and she thought his small conversations were a polite way to pass the time while waiting for his food/drink. One tamale and one misunderstanding later, they finally had their first date eating her favorite dessert: ice cream!
