Even though we all went to the same high school (different grades), I had never actually met Omar before, just knew of him. So, here’s how we actually met. On a warm summer night in 2008, my girlfriends Amanda & Angela were over my house when our friends Troy and Brandon texted us asking if we wanted to hang out with them and their friends Omar and Mike. Me being the social butterfly that I am, I of course said “yes” and told them to bring their bathing suits so we could swim. Good conversations were had, good memories were made, and a good friendship was developed between Omar and me. Omar always tells me that was the night he fell in love with me. Now let’s fast forward…
All throughout my junior (Taylor) and senior year (Omar) of high school (2009-2010), Omar would always show interest in me, by doing super sweet, small gestures for me. I would constantly come home from school and tell my mom what Omar did for me in school that day and she would always say, “he likes you!”. My response would be “no, no he doesn’t” … well of course my Mama was right. It all started when we were in the same gym class together, which then led to me eating lunch with him and all of his friends. I remember flirting with each other in gym class and both of us selecting all of the same gym activities to be together. He then came to see me in my high school musical, Grease. He drove me home from school, not knowing he lived in the complete opposite direction as me. He would run out to his car in the middle of our class periods to get me candy and share a pack of gum with me (lol). He also asked me out to prom, which I unfortunately already had a date for. Eventually, we finally started to hang out outside of school. Right after Omar graduated high school, the magic really started to happen. We started seeing each other pretty much every day with friends, then on June 28, 2010 Omar asked me on our first date. We went to the movies (saw Grown Ups) then went to get ice cream at our favorite ice cream spot. A couple days later, on the 4th of July, we went with my family to see fireworks at a local lake near home, and when we got back to my house, Omar and I talked for probably two hours about life and it was just so easy. A few minutes after midnight (July 5th) he asked me to be his girlfriend. Now, WERE ENGAGED (10.5 years later)!
Well guys…He FINALLY popped the question. It was the most magical and perfect proposal I could have ever dreamt of. On Jan. 8, Omar and I flew out to Denver, Colorado with our friend Kyle to go visit one of my best friends, Lizzy, and to go skiing/snowboarding. On Jan. 9, we all woke up early to make our way to Keystone, CO, for a day on the mountains and little did I know, in 7 hours we would be engaged. The first run down the mountain Lizzy and I went together, while the guys went down a “different” run, or so I thought they were going down a different one. What Omar was actually doing was scoping out the mountain and the “spot” where the proposal was going to happen, along with meeting up with our photographer. Once we got done with our first run, we met up with the guys and we all went back up the mountain together to go check out this “beautiful view” before our next run down. We got to the top of the mountain, Lizzy said she wanted to take a picture of Omar and I and asked me to take my helmet off. After we took our picture, Omar grabbed my hands, and said “look at me”. Right then and there I knew “this is it!” Sure enough, he got down on one knee and I said “YES!” Keystone, Colorado forever will have my heart. Now it’s time to write our new chapter as soon-to-be husband and wife.
