A Love Story Written by Fate (and a Borrowed Pen)

They say love finds you when you least expect it and in our case, it found us in the most random of places: a bank in Lagos, in 2017. Oyetope was on a mission to japa and chase her dreams in Canada. Tito? Just an unsuspecting guy at the bank, minding his business until fate stepped in with a twist. On that fateful day, Oye walked into the bank to pay her school fees. As she sorted out the payment, the friendly account manager struck up a conversation and casually asked if she knew anyone in Canada. She didn't, so without hesitation, the manager clearly operating as cupid's agent, promised to connect her with another student headed to the same school. A few days later, Tito called Oye. What started as a simple phone chat about study permits, visa processes, and life abroad was unknowingly the first thread in a tapestry of Love. Now here’s where the story gets juicier. Back to the bank day, Oye, in a rush realized she needed a pen. She borrowed one from a guy standing nearby. Didn’t look twice. No names exchanged. Just a simple, "Please, can I use your pen?" (Classic rom-com setup, right?) Fast forward to 2018. Oye lands in Canada. Waiting on the other side was Tito, not just with advice, but with open arms and an open heart. He was her guide her anchor, her first friend in a new chapter and Country. Making sure settling in a new Country was easy. He helped with groceries, to house hunting. And just a few days in, he cooked her a warm, comforting Nigerian meal- egusi soup and poundo. He still claims that was the moment he won her heart (Oye respectfully disagrees, kind of). But then came the Revelation. One day, Tito casually said, “You know, I actually saw you in 2017.” Oye was confused how?! They had only spoken on the phone before she arrived in 2018. Then he said it: “I was the guy who gave you the pen at the bank.” He even remembered what she wore: jeans and a red top. (If that’s not smitten, we don’t know what is.) From that point on, our friendship blossomed into something deeper. Over the years, we built a relationship grounded in love, laughter and shared dreams. On November 17th 2024, Tito asked Oye to spend forever with him, and they took the next step to make it legal on September 13th 2025 to become husband and wife.
