We went to D.C. for a belated birthday/Christmas trip, including dinner at Dogon by Chef Kwame and a visit to the Library of Congress (because books = Laura’s love language). Seyi planned to propose on the steps of the Library—but a visiting dignitary shut the whole area down. So he walked around D.C. for 10 miles with the ring in his pocket, while Laura (unknowingly) made a joke about wanting to be engaged. Back at the hotel (where Seyi had scored a surprise suite upgrade), the staff was ready to celebrate their engagement with champagne—before it had even happened. Seyi played it cool and passed it off as "fresh towels." Finally, after a very hangry Laura took a nap, he proposed. Ratatouille was playing in the background, Laura was in cheetah-print socks and a formal dress, and it was perfect—very “us.”
