In May of 2020, Rachel ventured to LaPorte, CA for a weekend get away in the woods. Among the trees, side-by-sides and campfires, she unknowingly arrived at the Hays cabin, running into Mel Hays, a high school volleyball teammate. They squealed and hugged, and Rachel met Jon Hays (we just call him Hays) for the first time. After a long night of stories and music on Hay's iconic iPod, Hays adopted Rachel as a part of the friend-family. The next weekend, the Hays invited Rachel back to LaPorte, and were joined by Steven & Ashley Mescher. When Rachel arrived toting a Ruger, a trailer and two dogs, Steven said, "Whoa!" and Mel said, "She's gotta meet David!". After Dave begrudgingly drove all the way to LaPorte after being swindled by Mel, he was pleasantly surprised by what awaited. The group stayed up until the wee hours of the morning, dancing, drinking and laughing. From then on, Rachel and David have been inseparable. So thanks to old friends, new friends, good music and a midnight dance on the cabin porch, the happy couple is getting married a little over 4 years later...
