Think back to each new school year, regardless of what age you were, try to remember the first thought that came to mind before you walked into class…for me, and I think a lot of us, it was the hopefulness that there would be a good-looking guy or gal who would make the minutes of that monotonous class turn into seconds. While I attended MSU Denver, this feeling remained and was ever-present at the beginning of each semester. Fortunately for me, I didn’t have to wait long; my sophomore year in what I believe was my final “general studies” course, a communications class, the lovely Jessica Olona strolled into class dressed oddly well for a run of the mill college course. Beyond the wardrobe, she looked familiar, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. For whatever reason, she sat nearby and although I couldn’t quite remember where I knew her from, I started thinking of ways to break the ice. Once I realized she was the sister of an elementary school friend of mine who lived in the same neighborhood, I realized I had the perfect opening line, “Hey, aren’t you Victoria’s sister?” The comment was clearly perfect in every possible way, so as soon as we made eye contact, I let it loose. Either the line was as perfect as I thought it was or she was smitten by my good looks because as we all know, the rest was history…
