Olivia and Harrison met at a classy, romantic, and not at all sticky bar called Burwood Tap in Chicago. Though the two of them were there to celebrate a mutual friend's birthday party, Olivia and Harrison had never met before. Olivia knew Harrison was also an alumni of Camp Echo, and she remembered seeing him there one summer doing Beyonce's Single Ladies dance alone in the corner of the dining hall. He seemed fun, and Olivia really liked the cute flowered shirt he was wearing. Harrison thought Olivia looked pretty cute herself. He was thrilled when she walked up to him and said, "Hi, I'm Olivia. I don't think we've met before, but you're Harrison right?” Two weeks later, they went on their first date. Olivia, wanting to impress Harrison, planned a date for them to see improv comedy at iO Theater — his favorite. Privately, Olivia didn’t care for improv (does anyone?), but for some reason it didn’t matter that night. When the show ended, the two found that they weren’t ready for the date to end. They went to another very classy local establishment, Weeds Tavern, where Olivia taught Harrison to play “What are the odds?,” a betting game she’d learned at camp to goad people into doing things they normally wouldn’t. Harrison promptly lost and had to order himself an appletini — his first of many in their years together since. Still not wanting the date to end, Olivia, new to Chicago, convinced Harrison to head downtown to see the Bean. Upon arrival, they discovered that Millennium Park had closed hours earlier, and they needed to make it past a security guard to get in. “We’re only here for one night,” Harrison offered. “We really want to see the Bean before we go.” The security guard appeared unmoved. “Where are you visiting from?” he asked. Olivia and Harrison, newly experts in improvisation and a little drunk off of apple-flavored vodka, lied in unison: “Grand Rapids.” Despite this also-Midwestern city being a short drive away, it worked: the security guard let them in. Harrison kissed Olivia for the first time right there under Cloud Gate, before the guard returned and shooed them back to “Michigan.” Olivia has not seen improv since. Harrison continues to drink appletinis against his will. They are both very happy and can’t wait to celebrate their love with you in December.
