In the first few days of my time at college, I walked into a friend's room and saw just another new person. Little did I know what the future would hold for us. As we answered the basic "new person" questions I quickly learned that we were very similar in our backgrounds. I could also tell that he was brilliant and had a very level head. One night I needed some advice. Even though we hadn't really talked, I walked straight up to him, sat down and said: "I would like your advice on something." You can tell his advice was pretty good because from then on we would keep talking. Due to both of us valuing friends and family we would stay up extra late on weekends to get time together. Some nights it would be talking for hours, some on a walk, and some sharing our favorite videos on youtube. One of our first late-night, our friend asked us to tell her what we valued in a spouse. This led to a conversation we continued into the late hours of the night as we walked around campus and looked at the stars. I remember thinking "oh I don't like sports enough for him to like me." I am very glad to tell everyone that this was one of his negotiables! For five years we grew closer and closer. We experienced highs and lows, laughs and worries, close and long-distance, and all the achievements. On my first 4th of July out of Montana, Thomas surprised me by asking to marry me under the Hermiston fireworks. I still can't believe it is real, but I am so glad it is!
