The Rose

Our Accidental and yet Intentional Encounter to Love

Okay, buckle up! Our love story is a glorious blend of accidental clicks, divine intervention, and a sprinkle of online dating chaos. It all started with me casually browsing through profiles on a dating website, and there he was—Ken! I had seen him enough times to think, “Hmm, cute guy,” but also “Wow, he looks like he could be a contestant on ‘America's Next Top Model’—the conceited edition.” I mean, come on! Who needs that kind of confidence in their life when you're trying to find love? So there I was, blissfully swiping left and right, leaving Ken in my “I’ll get back to him” pile. You know, the pile that grows like laundry on a busy week? I didn’t delete him, but I also didn’t exactly have him on speed dial. Fast forward to one fateful day when I received a notification: “Ken has uploaded new pics!” Of course, curiosity piqued. I thought, “Let’s see if this guy has a personality to match that model’s smirk.” Now, picture this: I’m on my phone, about to click the ‘like’ button on his new photos because, let’s be honest, I was feeling a bit more open to the idea of Ken. But just as I’m about to show a little love, someone distracts me! And in a moment of sheer chaos, I accidentally pressed the rose button instead of the ‘like’ button. Y’all, I almost dropped my phone! I couldn’t believe it. I was whispering “No, no, no!” like I was trying to reverse time or something. Spoiler alert: I couldn’t. And then, the moment of truth: I get a text from Ken a few hours later, and he’s all like, “Thanks for the rose! I’m flattered!” I mean, I could have just told him, “Oops, wrong button!” But no, I didn’t want to burst his bubble or deflate his ego like a sad balloon at a kid’s birthday party. So, I played along. Little did I know that my accidental rose was about to set off a chain reaction of destiny! Now, here’s the kicker: Ken was actually about to hit the “decline” button because he thought I lived two states away. He was like, “Nice rose, but I can’t do long-distance.” But then, in a plot twist worthy of a rom-com, something nudged him to just talk to me first. Thank you, Lord! Instead of pressing “X” (which sounds a bit like a dating app rejection version of a ‘dun-dun-dun’), he decided to thank me for the rose, and the rest is history! We started texting back and forth like we were in a high school romance, chatting late into the night and face-timing every evening for two weeks. And then, on March 31st, three weeks after our accidental rose moment, we went on our first date. Fast forward a year, and on April 27th, 2024, Ken popped the question! So there you have it: a story that began with a little accidental rose and a whole lot of fate. Who knew that a simple click could lead to a lifetime of love? When God says "I know the plans I have for you. . .."(*Jeremiah 29:11), I encourage everyone to be prepared for anything. . .even a matchmaker glitch on Hinge!
