Ferry Reservations
Getting to San Juan Island 🚢 By Ferry (Most Common Option) Washington State Ferries operate service from Anacortes, Washington to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. Vehicle reservations are strongly recommended, especially in summer Walk‑on passengers do not need reservations Ferry schedules, fares, and vehicle reservations can be found here: https://wsdot.wa.gov/travel/washington-state-ferries 📅 How reservations are released (important!) WSF uses a staggered release system so people don’t have to book months in advance: ~2 months before the season starts: 30% of vehicle spaces are released 2 weeks before each sailing: Another 30% are released 2 days before each sailing: Final 30% are released Last 10% is held for emergency and standby vehicles These releases happen at 7AM PST. So we recommend logging on to the ferry website prior to 7AM and then refresh the browser when 7AM hits and purchase the tickets. So, if you are traveling on July 31, ferry reservations open May 31 (2 months before), with more spots released on July 17 (two weeks before) and July 29 (two days before). These are the dates to set a 7AM alarm/reminder. 🔁 One‑way vs round‑trip reservations You need to book a returning reservation as well. Please do not forget! Use same math as above with your departure date. Good to know: Our reception venue is approximately a 5‑minute drive from the Friday Harbor ferry landing, making arrival quick and easy once you’re on the island. Important notes: Reservations are for vehicles only and are free Ferry fares are paid separately If you’re able, traveling as a walk‑on passenger and using taxis or ride services on the island can be a very easy option. Getting Around the Island Friday Harbor is compact and easy to navigate. Options include: Rental cars Taxis and ride services Biking and walking within town We recommend booking accommodations as early as possible, as summer availability can fill quickly.
