The uncertainty of asking someone out is exciting yet tricky; nonetheless, it’s a required step in the dating process. With his fraternity's Winter Formal on the horizon in Winter 2013, James was faced with this same challenge. He decided to skip the stress and ask a friend. Much to his dismay, his friend was already attending with someone else, forcing James to step out of his comfort zone. He decided to take a chance and ask a cute acquaintance to be his date. Since you're reading this now, it's probably no surprise that the cute girl on James' arm that brisk December night was Olivia. James and Olivia attended the formal together and had a wonderful time! Between James' smooth talking and Olivia's dynamite dance moves, the duo hit it off! They continued to get to know one another, mainly over text, as winter break arrived and students left for home. As the New Year approached, James found himself in Italy on a family trip while Olivia found herself in Austin, with girlfriends, celebrating New Year's Eve. Olivia knew James was really interested in her when, from Italy, he began texting to ask about her NYE plans, ensuring that he was at the top of her mind when midnight rolled around. Soon enough, James and Olivia were back in Austin and their fondness for one another continued to bloom. Thursday nights were spent together downtown and Olivia was most excited to attend SAE events because she knew James would be there. This continued until Spring Break and, since plans had been made before the two were “a thing”, James and Olivia were spending the break in different places. The arrival of Spring Break might not be seen as a turning point in a relationship, but it led to the pair officially becoming boyfriend and girlfriend, ensuring that flirting with others would not be a Spring Break activity! With a lot of love, good timing, and many years in between then and now, James and Olivia were able to turn their college love story into a happily-ever-after story.
