We first met at a Georgia Tech; Irvin missed the “not” during introductions; I had said “my name’s Olivia and I’m not Australian” (because of an inside joke between me and our mutual friend Emily). Irvin justified that I was Australian, becuase no normal American would be doing cartwheels and forward rolls during a frisbee game. Our first date, being humble college students, was Waffle House. Our first serious conversation was establishing the fact that he was going back to Puerto Rico after his research program ends and that we’d probably never see each other again so “let’s just be friends.” Fall Semester of 2012 Irvin transferred to Georgia Tech. We reconnected and played love tag, and bouncing back and forth between long distance relationships for the next 6 years, spending whole semesters apart for study abroads, internships and rotational programs even after graduation in 2015. It was not until January of 2018 when we finally landed jobs in the same place, near Houston, Texas. Through many trials and all our ups and downs, we made it. November 29th, 2019, Irvin orchestrated a beautiful proposal in Tequila, Mexico, after horseback riding and tequila tours, we promised together forever. Thank you friends and family for never giving up on us, your support and wisdom means the world!
