It was 2016, the year of Snapchat filters, matte lipstick, and the mannequin challenge. The song on shuffle was "One Dance" by Drake. I hope you feel as old reading that as I did typing it. Sixteen year old Connor asked fifteen year old Olivia to her sophomore homecoming dance with a scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream from Miller's Creamery, and the rest is history! Somehow, nine years ago manages to feel like yesterday and decades ago all at the same time. Shortly after homecoming, Connor worked up the nerve to ask me if I wanted to officially be “talking talking.” How romantic! A few weeks later, on October 5th, after a date at the highly acclaimed Kneuss Family Farms Pumpkin Patch, we started dating. The years that followed brought the sweetness and innocence that any first serious relationship brings. From prom to football games to graduation, and then off to college. We both attended Bowling Green State University together and navigated the throes of young adulthood for the very first time. A couple of months after Connor had graduated, as I was finishing up my degree, I got the call. Connor was asking me to move across the country to some place on the map I’d never even heard of, El Paso, Texas. Through lots of excitement and some tears, we made the cross country move with the support of family and got our first apartment together. Embarking on a journey that was all our own, away from friends and family in a very unfamiliar place, is one of my favorite parts of our love story so far. After a few months of settling into our new life in El Paso, Connor took me on a trip to Seattle and pulled off the most beautiful, straight from my Pinterest board, proposal. It was one of the most exciting and beautiful days of my life. We got engaged on July 20th, 2024. Being high school sweethearts and turning it into what we have today is the most special thing in our lives, and we often find ourselves stepping back to admire the little life we’re building together.
