We met working at the same high school in downtown San Diego in 2015. We would often chat about our mutual love of sports, cats, coffee, and poutine. Our students used to try and set us up or get us to go to school dances together when we would have to chaperone. If only they could see us now!
Poutine is hard to come by in San Diego, so when Connor told Olivia that he knew a place AND that she could eat said poutine while enjoying the history of it as told by an actual Canadian poutine historian, well she couldn't pass that up. We went to Mess Royale, the only place according to Connor, with authentic Canadian poutine in San Diego. It was a hilarious series of unfortunate events that culminated in Connor being 45 minutes late because he was washing his truck, breaking the machine to pay by using this new fangled technology called "Apple Pay," Olivia ripping her jacket and almost falling into a bush. It was very Connor and Olivia, and I don't think we would want it any other way.
The Mountains Were Out and the 12th Man Flag Was Flying We had spent the afternoon eating and drinking our way around the Seattle Public Market. It was our last day in Seattle and it was finally clear, so we drove up to Kerry Park to take a look at the view on the way home. We were joking about how much more we enjoyed the view having driven up the hill, instead of begrudgingly running up it. A year prior, we had run a half marathon and the route included a mile and a half up hill climb through Queen Anne to Kerry Park. We loved the breath taking view, but we both agree that the second trip up to Kerry Park was much better! We celebrated with what else -- mai tais, tater tots, Beecher's mac n cheese, and an Alaska Airlines first class flight back to San Diego.
