3.5 mile walk along the Newport coast - crashing waves on one side and stunning, century-old, Gilded Age mansions on the other. This is a must see spot (but make sure to wear your sneakers as parts of the walk can be rocky)!

10 miles of commanding coastline meets one winding road on Newport’s iconic Ocean Drive. Start your journey just off historic Bellevue Avenue and continue along for an undeniably tranquil journey with heart-stopping views. You’ll pass by Gilded Age mansions, Hammersmith Farm where Jackie Kennedy grew up, Brenton Point State Park, Fort Adams State Park, and Castle Hill, a favorite summertime sunset drink spot, grab an Adirondack chair and a cocktail and watch the sailboats race.
Downtown Newport has many boutiques, restaurants, bars and fun activities, so you will want to stroll through town. You may want to wear comfortable shoes if you plan on walking for any length of time. Parking is always tight in the summer, and most are metered. If you are staying in a hotel you may want to leave the car and walk or use other options offered throughout town; pedi cab, uber, trolly, etc.
Fort Adams State Park is a public recreation and historic area preserving Fort Adams, a large coastal fortification located at the harbor mouth in Newport, Rhode Island, that was active from 1841 through the first half of the 20th century. Great park for a long walk along Narragansett Bay, the actual fort has a great tour within its stone walls, complete with caves intended to house prisoners.
Middletown and Newport have a number of beautiful beaches to enjoy while in town, each beach is public but at a cost for a day pass and is first come basis. Middletown: Sachuest Beach "Second Beach" or "Surfers End" Second Beach offers snack bar, bathrooms and showers.
