How We Met

From prom dates to lifetime soulmates

Like many relationships, ours started out as a friendship, circa 2008. We met during our junior year of high school, more specifically, our lunch period. We both sat at different tables but we had mutual friends so eventually, we became acquainted. We even ended up going to senior prom together! We finished high school, still good friends and we both went our separate ways for college in fall 2009: Josh - Purdue University in West LaFayette, Indiana while I stayed in Pittsburgh, attending Robert Morris University. Fast forward to summer of 2010, right before our sophomore year of college started - we rekindled our friendship and by September, we were official! We spent the first five years of our relationship long distance, which is a feat in and of itself, but came out on the other side stronger than ever. Although we have been together 10+ years, our story is only beginning!

Proposal

11/12/2018

For our anniversary gift, Josh took us to London in November 2018; a city we’ve always wanted to go together since we could remember. On our second day there, he had planned for us to go visit The Shard, a 72-story skyscraper with an all glass exterior - you can see the whole city of London for miles in any direction! When we had arrived and reached the 70th floor, the view was clear and beautiful! But within half an hour of us arriving, clouds rolled in (covering the view of the city) and it started to rain. Unbeknownst to me, Josh was upset not only because it was raining and the view was ruined, but because he was planning to propose and he wanted it to be perfect. Meanwhile, I was sore since we had walked for MILES the day before - tired because of jet lag & lack of sleep as well as annoyed that it was raining and that it was ruining whole point of the Shard. Plus, we had been climbing up and down between the two floors where you could see the view. On top of this, the 72nd floor has an open ceiling, so it was raining on us and Josh was busy trying to figure out exactly where he wanted to propose (I was completely oblivious to this fact). FINALLY, the rain started to let up a little! On the 72nd floor, there is an archway decorated with flowers against one of the glass windows where people can pose in front with the view of the city behind them. He suggested we take a photo there & asked one of the workers to take a photo of us. So, we stand there smiling and the worker starts taking photo after photo and I’m thinking ‘did you get it yet?’ (she was just waiting for Josh to actually propose but I didn’t know this). Then, Josh finally turns to me with a slight look of fear on this face and I go ‘what?’ & he simply says ‘sorry’ and I reply ‘for what??’ & he proceeds to go down on one knee and propose! It was completely out of left field for me and I happily said yes! I can only imagine how nervous he was! I couldn’t be more excited to become his wife for life xx
