You could say our love story has always had a bit of a cinematic flair—though not without its twists. From our very first movie date, Halima had the starring role, picking out romantic comedies with witty dialogue and heartwarming moments. Yusuf, on the other hand, showed up for the action-packed thrillers and edge-of-your-seat suspense… or so he claimed. In reality, he mostly came for the chance to sit beside her, and maybe, just maybe, steal a glance when the plot got slow. Fast forward to countless movie nights later, and it’s safe to say we’ve both experienced a fair share of surprises. Yusuf may or may not have a habit of dozing off mid-movie (we’ll let the funny photos tell that story), but Halima still insists on picking the movie—and documenting each nap with a mischievous smile. A running gag that’s become part of our movie ritual. Then came the plot twist: Yusuf had to move away for work. We feared our beloved movie dates might roll the credits for good, but technology (and a little creativity) saved the day and we found a way to keep our tradition alive. Now, no matter the distance, we press play, take turns picking films, and honestly review each other’s choices—often to hilarious disagreements. Let’s just say, the movie scoreboard is still hotly debated. Through all the good, bad, and hilariously questionable movies we’ve watched, our favorite moments haven’t been on screen—they’ve been the shared laughs, sleepy smiles, and the simple joy of spending time together, even when we're miles apart.
