Mentorship, to Fellowship, to Friendship, to Marriage A divine journey, each step to cherish. Our love story is beautifully encapsulated by Hebrews 13:8: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever” (NIV). This verse reflects the unwavering foundation of our relationship—God’s constant presence and guidance through every phase. Indeed, God is the ultimate event planner, meticulously orchestrating every detail to perfection. It all began in October 2018 at Zenith Bank, Isale Igbeyin, Abeokuta. Both of us were there for unrelated transactions. Unknown to me, he had noticed me in the banking hall. After I left, he politely approached me on the street, requesting my phone contact. His calm, respectful, and neutral demeanor made it easy for me to share my contact information. Later that day, he sent a message, and I saved his contact. Interestingly, neither of us completed our transactions on that first visit, so we both returned the next day—mine for academic purposes and his for Church-related matters. Before I left for school, he gifted me a copy of his church’s daily devotional. We kept in touch occasionally, and over time, he became a mentor and big brother figure in my life. At the time, he was completing his master’s program. Our interactions remained within the clear boundaries of mentorship and spiritual guidance. Conversations centered on my spiritual growth and academic pursuits, with a mutual respect for those boundaries. Fast forward to January 31, 2023. A simple WhatsApp status video I posted prompted his comment, leading to a long and meaningful conversation. He shared recent developments in his life, and together we glorified God. From that point, our communication became more frequent, naturally deepening our connection. By January 2024, despite our efforts to maintain mentorship boundaries, it became evident that God was leading us toward something greater. Through prayer and spiritual discernment, we both received undeniable convictions of God’s will for our union. Trusting His perfect plan, we embraced the journey, believing wholeheartedly in His promise that together we would “chase ten thousand” (Deuteronomy 32:30). This story is a testament to God’s faithfulness and impeccable timing. It reminds us of His ability to work wonders in unexpected ways, just as He promised in 2 Kings 3:16-17: "You will see neither wind nor rain, yet this valley will be filled with water, and you, your cattle, and your other animals will drink." God’s plans are always greater than our own, and His blessings flow abundantly when we trust Him.
