Chidinma and Okwui's mothers are longtime friends and were pregnant at the same time. Okwui’s mother went into labor with her at Chidinma’s baby shower. The running joke is their love story is meant to be.
Chidinma and Okwui officially met the Summer of 2010. Okwui’s mother arranged for Chidinma’s family to stay at their place in Virginia for the weekend. Chidinma and Okwui connected instantly once they learned they were the same age, both athletes, and music lovers. They stayed up all night bonding while their siblings and cousins were asleep.
2014 Labor Day weekend, Chidinma and Okwui reconnected at the Oguta village convention in Connecticut. They both were hesitant to attend the event but were encouraged by their parents to go. When they saw each other again, sparks flew. Chidinma walked over to Okwui’s table and sat beside her. The two of them were inseparable for the rest of the night. They exchanged phone numbers, and their love journey began.
