How We Met

We hit it off just as any other modern love story does: Tinder. Gabe's picture was of him with a cat on his shoulder, and as a cat lover you can see why I swiped right! Gabe sent a one liner to break the ice, and after messaging for a few days we actually stopped talking to each other because he told me he was moving to North Carolina. I was really set on not moving anytime soon from Kansas. Well....a month later I decided to give it another chance and texted him again. Now we live together in North Carolina : )

The proposal

We have to find a good view!!

Gabe proposed to me at Linville Falls.... but that wasn't the plan. The week before my birthday Gabe brought up going to Asheville that weekend to celebrate. He even mentioned going into this ring shop we had visited before to look at rings again. The night before we were going to leave I told Gabe we should drive to the top of Mount Mitchell because there was supposed to be a really pretty scenic overlook. Gabe thought it was an awesome idea (wonder why!) Saturday morning we set out to get to the top of Mount Mitchell- a rainy, cold, 3 hour drive. 1st attempt: GPS took us to the completely wrong location. We didn't have service so we drove an hour back down the mountain we were on to ask someone for directions. Turns out we were about an hour and a half from where we needed to be. Gabe kept saying " We need to get to a good view" and "I really want to see a great view today" so we trudged on. 2nd attempt: This new route was a muddy, narrow, dirt road up the side of a mountain. Gabe had another bad feeling and mentioned turning around and trying to go "somewhere else with a really good view", but we had already spent 5+ hours trying to get to the top of that mountain so we were going to keep going. Turns out, the end of the route was blocked because the main road was closed due to ice. I finally got some service and looked at the website... the overlook had been closed all day because of the weather *face palm*. By this time it was 4pm, and we were losing daylight. Gabe *insisted* we try one more time to get somewhere with a "really great view." We were both more annoyed than anything, but Gabe wanted a view so we were going to get to that view!! I found Linville Falls, but it was about an hour away. We went for it, and by the time we got there we had about 20 minutes of daylight left. We went to two beautiful overlooks, and at the second one Gabe wanted to "shout from the mountain top how much he loved me", got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him.

For all the days along the way
